Dubai Passenger traffic through Sharjah International Airport jumped by 37 per cent in the first nine months of 2006 compared with the same period last year from 1.63 million to 2.23 million. The number of flights increased 14 per cent from 27,904 to 31,815.
The volume of cargo and shipping reached 411,697 tonnes, an increase of 17.9 per cent compared with the 349,259 tonnes handled in the previous period.
The number of transit passengers increased 164.2 per cent from 37,771 to 99,806.
The number of arrivals increased 39 per cent from 715,854 to 996,202, and the number of departures increased 34.9 per cent from 710,505 to 958,286 and the number of
transit

passengers increased by 9.94 per cent from 166,536 during January-September 2005 to 183,088.
August 2006 witnessed the highest number of passengers in the nine months of 2006 at 285,838, and July 2006 was a close second with 283,483, due mainly to the holiday season and passengers returning before the start of the school year.
Scheduled aircraft movements registered a strong increase of 20.2 per cent from 19,905 to 23,919 and the number of non-scheduled flights reached 7,896 with August registering the highest number of both scheduled and non-scheduled flights for this period at 3,771.
