ACI World/Asia meet to be held in Sharjah

SHARJAH

The forthcoming Airports Council International (ACI) World/Asia 2003 conference, being hosted by Sharjah Airport Authority, will attract more than 800 delegates belonging to the global airport operators and aviation community from all over the world.

Geneva-based ACI is the global body of airports or civil aviation authorities with membership exceeding 1,500. It represents the airport industry globally and addresses safety and development issues in its annual conferences in different parts of the world.

The conference is scheduled to be held at Sharjah University City Hall from December 5 to 8. The event is organised by Sharjah Airport Authority in co-ordination with ACI.

Sharjah Airport Authority's organising committee has discussed the latest arrangements for the ACI World/Asia Conference/Exhibition 2003.

The committee members at a recent meeting followed up the progress of work in coordinating activities among the sub-committees to ensure smooth operation, attracting sponsorship to ensure success of the global event.

Tourist destination

Attention has also been given to

promote the emirate of Sharjah as a tourist destination. Sharjah Airport Authority's organising committee has planned heritage, cultural, sight-seeing and sporting events for the participants, delegates, their families and other accompanying guests.

This is the third time Sharjah Airport is hosting an ACI event. The previous conferences were well attended by delegates of the industry from across the world and well represented by a number of international airports, major international passenger and cargo carriers, and passenger and cargo agents.

Previous events and conferences discussed events pertaining to the challenges to the air industry, security measures, proper utilisation and focus on economising resources and profit maximisation, customer service and support.

Dr. Ghanem Al Hajri, director general of Sharjah Airport Authority, said: "The event is for the collective benefit of all the members and participants, wherein the objective can be achieved by exchanging ideas and presenting the latest challenges of the industry."

Al Hajri said he is very optimistic about the success of the show. He noted that the airport is proud to host the conference.
