Sharjah upgrades veterinary service at airport

Sharjah

Sharjah Municipality has upgraded its veterinary services at Sharjah International Airport by introducing an advanced testing system for imported meat and fish. The Municipality has also tightened measures at ports to ensure imported livestock is free of diseases.

Dr. Omar Ahmad Abdul Hamid, head of the Veterinary Services Section, said they will inspect consignment papers, health certificates and whether the animals have been vaccinated.

New spray equipment, disinfectants and pesticides will be used at the quarantine houses. Pets-especially those coming from Asia-will be vaccinated. In the event of injury during journey, pets will be treated, vaccinated and released after three weeks to ensure they are free of viral infections.

Meanwhile, the municipality organized a lecture on cooking oil oxidation for food inspectors. The lecture, which was delivered by Dr Abdul Wahab Khidir, head of the Central Food Control Laboratory of Sharjah Municipality explained risks involved in oil oxidation.
