Sharjah plans more road shows next year

SHARJAH Tourism’s first road show in India has turned out to be a great success and four more road shows are likely to be held in different countries next year according to Mohammed Ali Al Noman, director of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority.

Noman said this recently during the ongoing road show in India where the team visited and conducted workshops in New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Hyderabad, before moving on to Mumbai and Cochin.

He said the package offered by the tourism authorities drew much interest from the participants at the workshops and many of the travel agencies attending these workshops made reservations for visiting Sharjah.

“Our first road show to India has displayed great success for the emirate of Sharjah,” Noman said, adding, “Usually we expect to get the outcome of such activities afterwards, but since we are starting to get immediate reservations for our travel packages, I think we have managed to attract the Indian Tourist sector.”

The members of the road show delegation included officials from the SCTDA, Sharjah International Airport and Sharjah Airport Travel Agency, besides from Indian Airlines and senior representatives of travel and tourism agencies.

The package presented by the Sharjah delegation comprises a two and four night stay with a maximum of 14 days, including visa, hotel accommodation, city tour, and air ticket and airport transportation.

Noman said the delegation discussed with the Indian travel agencies possibilities of further co-operation in attracting more tourists to Sharjah and both sides also agreed on the necessity of having public awareness campaigns to help developing the tourism sector.

He said plans are afoot for conducting road shows to other important destinations worldwide for highlighting Sharjah as a tourist destination, though these places will be decided after evaluating the present road shows including their effectiveness and the related response from the present destinations.

Four road shows are planned by the SCTDA to different global destinations next year, besides also looking the possibilities of venturing into newer destinations in South East Asia, he said, while noting that Sharjah tourism is making its presence felt in the various destinations visited so far through its effective marketing strategies and one-on-one communication at the workshops that have been held so far during the visit to India.
